Infinity Scarves

Hello Ladies,

I got into a sewing mood!!! How?? Well, I went to visit my friend, Senadzi, a while ago and I was telling her about decorating the baby's room and possibly getting some throw pillows and covering them with some fabric to go with the decor.  She just so happen to be going through some stuff around her house and gave me some fabric she figured she wouldn't get around to using.  As soon as I came back from visiting her, I showed my mother the fabric and told her all I needed to do was get some throw pillows. I was in no rush, but my mother just so happen to stumble across some throw pillows at a garage sale that following weekend. She bought them over to me so there was nothing else to do but get to work.  I checked out some YouTube videos on how to reupholster pillows and then I headed to the store. I could have just reupholstered the pillows with what they gave me, but I wanted to be fancy after watching YouTube.  I purchased some inexpensive back fabric (being extra), ribbing cord (trying to be fancy), and zippers so I could remove the pillow casing and wash them if need be. This was a pretty cheap project for me since the most expensive stuff was given to me.

See my newly upholstered pillows....

I wish I had a before picture of the pillows, but that is besides the point. While I was at the store getting the items for the pillows, I purchased some remnants to make some infinity scarves for myself to have this fall.  I got the idea to make some while skimming my Pinterest one day. The Pinterest post had the instructions, but I had to watch someone do it so off to YouTube I went. Here is the video I used to make my infinity scarves.

Check out the final products!!!

Baby Shower

Hello Everyone!!!

Yes, it has been a while since my last post, as my sister reminded me yesterday on Twitter! So, I'm stopping in to share some details about our baby shower. It was great! My mother, sister, Aunt Keyanna, and friend Stephanie planned the shower for us.

Bottom left to right: Aunt Keyanna and me, Stephanie and me
We had a coed shower; the men seemed to enjoy themselves so that was good. Most of the people attending the shower were from out of town. We were so grateful that they would travel so far to come celebrate the new addition to our family with us. I think my friend Brittany traveled the farthest distance from Miami, Florida. The second farthest distance was traveled by those coming from all over North Carolina and they made up the majority of attendees. Again, we really appreciated everyone's presence.

Shower activities.....

We played games, ate, and opened gifts - short and sweet! We played some games to include - How Big is Mommy to Be, The Price is Right, Listen for the Nursery Rhyme within the jazz music, and Word Puzzles. We had some great food too - mini chicken salad sandwiches, wraps, wings, cheese and cracker platter, and fruit platter.

The desserts were yummy! My mother made all the sweets - Teddy Bear cake (yellow), cupcakes (carrot) - my fave, teddy bear shaped shortbread cookies, and her Blue "Drank".

We received a lot of wonderful gifts....

AND my husband even surprised me with gifts, which included some outfits and toys for Jonathan and a spa day and jewelry for me!!!

AND!!!! Check out the gifts my crafty friends and family made.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone!!! Today was a great day, we got up and went to 8 A.M. service. We had a great message today about the Resurrection. After church, we went to breakfast at IHOP with the family. We were all tired, so we went home and played with Blue for a little bit and then took a nap. We then made our way over to my parents house where we had Easter dinner...Ham, Baked Chicken, Salmon, Potato Salad, Peas and Rice, Deviled Eggs, Collard Greens, Hot Cross Buns, Apple Pie a la mode, and Pound Cake...YUMMY!!! I still feel like my stomach is going to pop as I write this. Anyway, traditionally in Bermuda for Easter everyone makes their own kites and then fly them. If you decide to make your own kite, please do not be alarmed, the kite will get busted up a bit. They make the kites out of tissue paper. My mother made my sister a kite this year. Check it out!

We weren't working with much wind, however, here is a video of her trying to fly the kite.

How did you spend your Easter?

Jewelry Making

I went to a jewelry making session at Joann's with my mother a while ago. Here is my first attempt at making jewelry.

As of late, I have just been fixing broken bracelets and necklaces. I will attempt to make some more pieces in the near future. Have you made any jewelry lately? Please share!

Knook Update

Okay I am back with an update on the Knook. I followed the instructions the in the videos below:

For Right Handers:

For Left Handers:

Here are my results after following the left handed videos:

Garter Stitch

Stockinette Stitch
The Knook is okay, but my mother was teaching me how to knit today and regular knitting is easier and faster in my opinion. Also, the cord that you have to use with the knook to hold the stitches in place snags a lot. Other than that, the Knook is an okay product but I would recommend just learning how to knit the regular way. I think I am done with the knook and will be starting on two new projects; knitting a hat for a friend and crocheting a hat for myself. The hat will be similar to the hat I wore in my "Wash Day" video. A lot of people like to wear these type of hats after washing their hair or on a bad hair day because they are very fashionable.

See...

I'll be back to update you all later. Feel free to post your experience with the knook or any questions you may have.

Ornament Exchange

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. This year my parents are hosting!!!! Thank God I don't have to sit in Thanksgiving traffic this year. Anywho, my mom always has something entertaining for her guests to do when they come over and this time she wants to do an ornament exchange so people can walk away with something to decorate their tree with for Christmas. I decided to go the DIY (do it yourself) route and make my own ornament. The ornament I will be making is a pine cone.

How did I do it???

Materials Needed:

* Styrofoam Egg
* Hot Glue Gun
* Decorative Paper
* Pins
* Embellishments of your choice
* Glue Stick
* Scissors
* Ribbon

Step 1: Cut decorative paper into 1 by 1 inch squares

Step 2: Using the glue stick put some glue on the back of the paper then fold down two corners to make it look like a house. Do this to all your 1 by 1 inch squares.

Step 3: Cut off two small pieces of your decorative paper then hot glue them to the top and bottom of the styrofoam egg.

Step 4: Start pinning little house shaped paper on to the styrofoam egg. Continue until no more white styrofoam is showing.

Step 5: Hot glue or pin on embellishments.

Step 6: Add ribbon for hanging and done!!

Crocheting and Knitting

As of late, my mother has been teaching me for the second time how to crochet. It has been a real struggle for me because I'm left-handed and my mom is right-handed, but YouTube has been really helpful. Here are some of the projects my mother just finished. If you want her to make you something...I'm taking orders!!!

Candle Drape (crochet)

Children's Sweater w/ Hood (knit)

Now, back to me....I like some of the knitting patterns more than the crochet and I don't feel like learning to knit. So my mom introduced me to....drumroll.....drumroll.....drumroll....

The Knook!!! Now, I can knit with a crochet hook!! So cool...I'll update you on my knook projects. See ya soon!
